2025 Annual Report

2025 Annual Report

A message from ouR founders

Dear Nimruz Community,

When we started Nimruz, our vision was to use the power of art and education to foster solidarity and celebrate the diversity of the Iranian community. Nimruz means “midday”—the moment when the sun is at its highest, casting light evenly and without shadow. We have always believed that a strong community is one that is pluralistic, inclusive, and grounded in mutual respect. In many ways, we think of this work as tending to a shared garden: one that reflects the richness of who we are, and that requires care, patience, and intention to truly flourish under that light.

This past year has been particularly challenging for Iranians around the world. In the face of a brutal dictatorship in Iran and multiple wars, our community has not always shown up as its best self. And yet, it is in moments like these that our mission feels most urgent. Harsh conditions test any garden, but they also make clear how essential it is to keep tending to it. In the face of these challenges, we have witnessed powerful acts of resistance through art, from films like It Was Just An Accident and Cutting Through Rocks that reflect the indomitable spirit of those facing adversity. And we have experienced the beauty and joy of our people when we’ve gathered together even during the darkest of times.

As we reflect on the year behind us and the projects we’ve had the pleasure to help bring to life, we are met with a renewed sense of purpose. This work - of nurturing, of cultivating, of creating space for growth and connection - is more important than ever. Through arts and culture, we continue to work toward a future where we respect one another, engage across differences, and recognize that our strength lies in our collective. We invite you to reflect with us and to continue tending this garden together.

Each 5–6 minute video highlights one extraordinary woman—from artists and educators to advocates and public servants—and their struggle to create lasting change. The series challenges misperceptions about Iranian and Middle Eastern women and traces their legacy to women’s movements today. Available in English and Persian.
